Sweaty Run And Food Fun

Today’s Happy Note: Getting loads of new running gear all for free (over $300 worth)!  I’m doing a little mini-job this weekend for a running company, but I’m not allowed to talk about the details or share pictures with you guys, according to my manager.  Boo.

Thanks everyone for your congrats on the job.  I am really excited about my summer.  I love working in my current job (a library archive) and it’ll be fun to get to do that and the non-profit work.  Yay!  If you”re a college student, what are your summer plans?

Exercise: 6 mile very sweaty run, with 8 one to two minute sprints sprinkled throughout.  I was dying today; it was definitely over 70 degrees when I ran and humid humid humid.  Do you prefer to run in the heat or cold? I am much better adjusted to cold!  I can easily throw on a few layers and get out the door in a Canadian snowstorm, but ask me to run in the city on a 90 degree July day and I will quake in my boots.  My metaphorical boots.  I am really looking forward to doing some swimming in an outdoor pool this summer though!

Eats: Hardly remembered to take pictures of anything today, but in my defense, I was consumed by reading.  Have you ever had to wade through Nietzsche?  He is miserable.  And kind of evil.  AND he doesn’t make any sense, to top it all off.  He is not my friend.  There are a lot of philosophers who I think I could be friends with, like Kant and maybe even Hegel or Rawls.  But not Nietzsche. I wish I could flush my Nietzsche book down the toilet.

Oh yeah, I was going to tell you about food.  Not school!

Believe it or not, this breakfast (two sunny side up eggs, one giant honeycrisp apple) kept me full for almost five hours, including a six mile run!  I had had some m and m’s as a late night study snack so I wasn’t too hungry in the morning and planned on a small breakfast.  But wow, this meal delivered!  I’ll have to do it more often.

Eggs: I like my yolks runny.  Always have, always will.  I do occasionally appreciate hard-boiled eggs though.  If you aren’t vegan, how do you like your eggs?

Ignore the fact that my bread is slightly burnt; it still tasted just fine.  This lunch sammy was hummus and white cheddar!  It was amazing; a very unique and satisfying combo.  I think it is, when in wrap form, referred to as a “crack wrap”. Does anyone know who first started calling it this? Served with a side of veggies, of course.

I had a yummy smoothie for dinner, but there is one major problem.  My blender doesn’t seem to be very powerful; it can’t chop up frozen fruit or avocados, even, which seem pretty benign to me.  I mean, what if I was putting root veggies in there?  When I make my smoothies, no matter how many times I stir the mixture around and for how long I keep it whirring, there are always pieces of uncut fruit left.  Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a special blending trick?

Random Notes:

I have realized something in the last few weeks.  Between four and seven pm, I often get hungry and overeat!  I usually have my afternoon snack anywhere between three and five, and if it’s too small, I’ll just keep snacking.  Sometimes I get home at six or so and don’t have anything to do immediately so I snack.  This is such an obvious pattern now that I think about it.  I don’t like eating dinner until seven or eight usually.  I think there are a couple solutions to this dilemma, which  I will try implementing throughout the coming weeks:

1. Eat two afternoon snacks.

2. Eat an earlier dinner (about 6:00).

3. Occupy myself (i.e, reading newspaper, getting a head start on school stuff, drawing, etc.) during the “danger hours”.

4. Notice when I’m hungry and write down my feelings when I’m not hungry.

I am really interested in the Body for Life program that I always see on Janetha’s blog.  It sounds really awesome (it’s not a diet guys, don’t worry).  I think smaller more frequent meals do work for me, typically.  Is there a book I should buy?  Has anyone tried it?

Happy Thursday all, it’s almost the weekend!

The eggs and apples idea is so cute! I like egg whites mainly, but in general I like eggs scrambled, or an omelette, or in something. I always eat an early dinner (around 5-5:30), because that’s when I’m usually hungry for dinner. And keeping afternoon snacks on hand is always a good idea!

I like my eggs SCRAMBLED! 🙂 Yours look pretty darn good though.

I love how you are taking a step back and analysing your behaviour, and although I’ve never read the book you mention, I find eating little and often much more satisfying – and am keen on snacking!

That’s so amazing about the running gear, but poo about the blender. Wish I knew what to suggest…ask it nicely to behave better? Hehe

glad that the protein post was informative for you.

blender. most suck. sad but true. Honestly, Deb of Smoothie girl Eats has about 3-4 blenders, some cheap, some not, plus a Vita. She is the queen of blending, check out her site 🙂 Or Allie of Pimp my Protein shake, too!

Whoa your job sounds totally awesome! I would take 300 bucks worth of running gear in a heartbeat! It was summer when I was training for my first marathon and I would have to get up super early to run to beat the heat. It was rough, but I got used to it. Some days it felt good and others I thought I was gonna puke.

Those eggs look awesome! I’ll take them any way I can get em. And I love that sandwich – so unique.

I definitely tend to feel hungrier when I’m bored but when I’m busy studying or something – no hunger at all. It’s crazy.

I’m the same way with afternoon snacking, and I’ve found that eating early really helps me. I grew up eating dinner at 7 or 8, but 5 or 6 just works so much better!!

Congrats again on the job, it sounds amazing!! I’m headed home for the summer…couldn’t find any internships in NYC that paid!

I’m pretty sure Mama Pea from peas and thank you thought of the crack wrap, but I’m not totally sure!
